Charles Ogletree with Soledad O’Brien on Race, Class and Crime at 92Y

0 Charles Ogletree with Soledad OBrien on Race, Class and Crime at 92Y92Y Lectures & Conversations: http://www.92y.org/shop/category.asp?category=888Lectures+and+Conversations888&ev_ads=YouTube_Lectures

On June 30, Charles Ogletree was interviewed by Soledad O’Brien about his book, “The Presumption of Guilt.” The book dealt with last year’s arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. for attempting to break into his own home. Their fascinating discussion explored tensions between black and white, police and civilians and the privileged and less privileged. Mr. Ogletree also singled out class as playing a large role in the event, and framed the event as one between a white, working class Cambridge police officer and an affluent, accomplished, black Harvard professor.

“How is this about class?” O’Brien inquired. “Very simply,” he replied. “The very first thing Skip Gates said, when officer Crowley came into his house and asked him for identification, said, ‘do you know who I am?’ …his point was, he had achieved something…he wasn’t just a black man, he was a prominent Harvard University professor living in a prominent neighborhood…”

For our Facebook friends who submitted questions for Mr. Ogletree, pay attention to the 3:45 mark, when he addresses your questions directly.

0 From the Poetry Center Archives: Tomasz Różycki92Y Poetry: http://www.92y.org/Uptown/Tisch-Center-for-the-Arts/Unterberg-Poetry-Center.aspx?blog=92Ypoetry

Today’s video features “Maps,” an early poem by the evening’s second reader, Tomasz Różycki, who visited the Unterberg Poetry Center on March 28 for The Tenth Muse—an evening of readings by emerging voices curated by Adam Zagajewski.

Read in both Polish and English (with translator Mila Rosenthal reading her translation). Also read is an excerpt from Twelve Stations, a series of poems about Różycki’s hometown of Opole—”heroic city, thrice awarded the Silesian Order of Brilliance / and twice the Medal of the City of a Hundred Banks and One Bookstore!”—read by Różycki and a second translator, Bill Johnston.

A “vital new poet has emerged from the Polish language,” Zagajewski said of Różycki. His “poetry is serious, a private response to the historic moment.

What is the name of the mountain tribe in Asia thought to be descended from the Army of Alexander the Great?

Thet are both culturally and racially distinct and live somewhere in the Himilayas. They appear ethnically European but have developed customs and a society distinct from both those of Asia, and those of Europe. What an enigma!

The Kalash people live in the mountains of northern Pakistan and claim to be the descendants of Alexander the Great’s generals. Here is a BBC slideshow about them

twin awkwardness!!??!?

my twin and i are identical boy\girl twins. it is possible for it to happen because when the zygote split one twin(me)loses a y chromosome and develops into a female, look it up it is true! i was suppose to be a boy but i turned out to be a girl. now lets get back to the question. we do every thing together, we can tell what the other is thinking and literally feel what the other feels ex) my twin gets pricked i start to bleed to. there is always awkwardness when it comes to dating. this is how it happens: we are walking down the street and the girl brian likes(not saying who)comes over and starts talking to him and this is what i think….now what do i do? she doesn’t know that he likes her so if i leave then she will know and if i don’t then i will be intruding! so what do! then the same thing happens to me and then what does he do!

just keep walking but keep a slow pace if she went up to talk to him she obviously likes him in some way or another same for him with you
