I’ve lived in NoVa my whole life but for some reason I’ve never known in the museums are open on Sundays in DC. Anyone know? Also, if anyone could tell me the hours for the Smithsonian museums on Sat & Sun I would really appreciate it.
The Smithsonian Museums are open 364 days a year–only closing on Christmas Day. Most have normal hours of 10am until 5:30pm, seven days a week. Sometimes there are variations, particularly during the summer months when some stay open later.
A couple of exceptions to the above:
–Tthe National Portrait Gallery/National Museum of American Art have later hours than the other museums. They don’t open until 11:30 am and close at 7:00pm.
–The National Zoo keeps it own schedule. Here’s a link:
–The National Gallery of Art, not formally part of the Smithsonian, keeps its own schedule:
"The National Gallery of Art, located on the National Mall between 3rd and 7th Streets at Constitution Avenue NW, is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Gallery is closed on December 25 and January 1. The National Gallery of Art is closed January 20, 2009."
