Philanthropist and entrepreneur Eli Broad spoke to an audience at the 92nd Street Y and Matthew Bishop, US business editor of The Economist, about the prospects of newspapers in the current economic climate.
He expressed his foundations interest in purchasing the LA Times, the importance of newspapers in a democracy, and the benefits of having philanthropic organizations owning newspapers.
