92Y Poetry Center Schools Project: http://bit.ly/92YPoetryCenterSchoolsProject

Did you hear the news? Time Warner Cable’s New York Region and Ovation joined forces to support the 92nd Street Y Poetry Center Schools Project. The literary education program reaches 1,500 public high-school students annually and combines in-class creative writing workshops with the opportunity for students to meet leading contemporary writers and hear them read live in 92Y’s concert hall—all free-of charge to students and schools.

Last week, Time Warner Cable and Ovation celebrated the new partnership with a kick off reception followed by a conversation with singer-song writer Rosanne Cash hosted by novelist A.M. Homes in 92Y’s concert hall. No worries if you missed it, check out photo highlights on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=243200&id=6422138883) and video from the evening, including Rosanne singing Bob Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country”, on the 92Y Blog: http://bit.ly/ae8IXp

In the video, Ms. Homes asks Cash about her spiritual life and her multiple roles as a mother, wife and touring artist. Trying a number of religions, Cash confided Buddhism is the only religion that makes sense to her. “It’s about compassion, non-violence and self-awareness. What else,” she asked, “should religion be about, than those three things?”clip of Rosanne will bring you up to date on the festivities.

On her competing roles as a touring artist, mother and wife: “Becoming a mother changed me fundamentally…if you’re prioritizing, [you're children are] first, and then a record and a tour, and all of the other things that you fit in. Women can not have it all, that was the biggest myth that they fed us back in the 70s. It’s just not true. Nobody can have it all. You have to make choices, you have to make sacrifices.”

The partnership between Time Warner Cable, Ovation and 92Y will provide the opportunity for you to experience the Poetry Center Schools Project firsthand through a series of short documentary videos that will be free to Time Warner Cable customers on Channel 1111 using On Demand.
